Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 15, 2026. This policy outlines our commitment to transparency and the protection of your digital privacy when using the FocusBar Chrome extension.
info Introduction
Welcome to FocusBar. Your privacy is a fundamental design principle. This document explains how Rob Mata ("we," "us," or "our") handles your information when you install and use the FocusBar extension for Google Chrome.
FocusBar operates entirely offline and locally on your browser. We do not collect, store, transmit, or sell any of your personal information, browsing history, or analytics data.
Data Collection & Storage
Account-Wide Presets
General profile settings (colors, animation speeds) are stored via chrome.storage.sync. This allows your preferences to persist across your Chrome account devices without leaving your browser environment.
Local Device Data
Device-specific data and configuration preferences are stored uniquely on your machine via chrome.storage.local. We never track or upload this data.
Per-Site Memory
FocusBar saves coordinate data (top position and height) for specific domains to improve your user experience. Domain names are used only as keys for your local settings; they are not tracked, logged, or shared.
Permissions Explained
To function correctly, FocusBar requires specific browser permissions. Below is an explanation of why each is necessary:
- `activeTab` / `Host Permissions`: Required to execute the JavaScript that injects the reading bar UI overlay. FocusBar does not read or alter webpage content beyond visual accessibility elements.
- `tabs`: Required to identify the active tab for keyboard shortcut triggers (Alt+Shift+F) and to enable local screenshot capture features. This does not allow FocusBar to collect or store your browsing history.
- `storage`: Required to save your customized settings (bar height, themes, opacity) locally so your preferences persist.
photo_camera Image Capture & Privacy
FocusBar includes features to copy screenshots to your clipboard or download them as files. All image processing happens 100% locally within your browser environment.
No image data ever leaves your device or is accessible to any external servers. The screenshot features function entirely in-memory and data is cleared immediately after the action is complete.
